Society Goals and Objectives
The Greater Jacksonville Society of Plastics Surgeons
is dedicated to developing and encouraging the highest
standards of personal and professional conduct among
plastic surgeons; disseminating information regarding
clinical and scientific progress in plastic surgery;
promoting the art and science of plastic surgery and
communicating to the members and the public the
advancement and improvements made in the field of
plastic surgery.
Membership Qualifications:
"Active" Members of the GJSPS must have met the
following criteria:
- Certification by the American Board of Plastic
Surgery.
- Actively engaged in the practice of plastic and
reconstructive surgery in Florida and have completed
two years of active (post-training) practice in
Florida prior to being voted on by the membership at
the Annual Business Meeting.
- Receive recommendation for membership by two
Active Members of the Society.
- Show that high moral, ethical and professional
standards have been and will be met in accordance
the the Society' Code of Ethics and agree to comply
with the code.
- Receive a 90% affirmative vote of Active Members
attending and voting at the Annual Business Meeting.
What is Board Certification?
A surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic
Surgery (ABPS), has graduated from an accredited
medical school and completed at least five years of
additional training, has practiced plastic surgery for
two years and passed comprehensive written and oral
exams. The ABPS is a recognized board of the American
Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). To check your
physician's board certification, visit the American
Board of Medical Specialties website at
www.certifieddoctor.org and use the site's
verification service.
You may verify a physician's medical license status by
visiting the
Florida Department of Health website
. The Florida Department of Health is the licensing
board for all Florida physicians regardless of
